Udi release A9.com today

As you may recall, I saw Udi speak at the University of Washington last November. It's going to be interesting to see how much is in the 1.0 release of the A9.com search engine. According to the New York Times

The new service goes much further, adding the ability to organize and retrieve past searches. The idea is to make searching more useful by making it easier to remember where a Web browser has gone before.

"The ability to search through your own history of personal Web searches is insanely powerful," said John Battelle, a writer and consultant who is the organizer of the Web 2.0 conference to be in San Francisco next month. "This is a big deal,'' Mr. Battelle said. "But the question is will people get the habit of using it?"

The new A9 search page permits users to search the Web and simultaneously retrieve related information from Google's search results and its image search service, reference material from the GuruNet service and additional information from the Internet Movie Database.

A9 executives said that the new version of the service was simply a first release and that the company had extensive plans for adding new capabilities.

"This is just version 1.0," said Mr. Manber. "There is a lot more to come."

I can see this being a useful tool for students trying to keep track of web pages used in research.

LipSync for Lotus Notes and Mac

From Version Tracker:

Sync between Lotus Notes, Apple iCal, and Apple Address Book! Combined with Apple's free iSync software, you can sync Lotus Notes Contacts and Calendars with PalmOS PDA's, iPod, mobile phones, and more!.

It sounds like there are problems getting in contact with the company based on the feedback:

Since last November I tried to get someone at Kissworks to answer to my mails. 10 times, 20 times, no trial key code, no answer at all. At last, I ordered a number by fax, nothing happened. I already thought, this company has disappeared from this planet, then a kollegue came over with a order confirmation number, he just has buyed one day before. Do I have a bad karma or what? But after I have read the other comments to this product I know that I am not alone

Microsoft spins lack of iPod support for MSN Music

The Seattle PI Microsoft Blog today has an article about Microsoft's soft approach at a Real Audio type of protest using their knowledgebase. They are on their third revision of the "help article" and have toned down the third version. The comments on the PI Microsoft blog, while not as numerous, follow the same line as the comments against Real Audio's plea to ride on the coat tails of Apple's innovation.

mike (not me) says in the comments:

The only shock is that iPod owners might be trying to get access to a messy MSN Music Store...

...which they aren't. MS put up the FAQ to make it look that way.. which is entirely beneficial to them, it's just not based on reality.
