Real Audio Petition Backfires

Oooops! I don't think this is what Real Audio had in mind when they started the Hey Apple! Don't break my iPod petition. The zealot Mac Heads have taken aim at Real Audio using Real's petition against them. If you're Rob Glaser, it's not a pretty sight. Here is a sampling of the comments left that are not profane:

647. REAL Blows - I want my iPod and iTunes to be safe from Real Network's shoddy code....STAY AWAY ROB

641. DV - Competition? Why doesn't Real come out with their OWN device???

633. Michael Simpson - Real, you don't care about Mac users, so why should we care about your crappy music service?

624. BUSH/GLASER 2004 - Vote BUSH/GLASER 2004 in in this year's elections

614. Jeff - Real is not for open standards or consumer choice. They fail to realize that the iPod will play more than just AAC incoded tracks. So why reverse engineer AAC (FairPlay) when they could sell Mp3? It's all about the DRM!

598. READ !!!!!! NEW PETITION IS ONLINE !!! - They posted A NEW LINK on their site ! without COMMENT option!!! read http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?4real2 plenty oppertunity to post 'bad' names though !!!

588. mullman - the best REAL can come up with to support their cause is DEVO?

231. You Tainted Spies - Real software == history of SPYWARE and I keep my PC clean. No thanks.

225. JoeCamel - Freedom? How about the freedom to play Real Media on Quicktime? If Apple hacked into REAL to allow REAL format in Quicktime, would REAL scream "UNFAIR"? Hippocrites.

2. Rob Glaser - Welcome to Freedom Of Music Choice Everyone!

OK - I think you get the point. Evidently, Real posted a new petition soon after this one blew up in their face that doesn't allow comments "to reduce the spread of harmful new viruses which harvest email addresses from the web cache of infected computers." In case that is too cryptic -- we didn't mean for people to be able to express their hate for Real Audio on our own petition.

The Internet is oh so powerful.
