Jupiter Hotel Portland, Oregon
At the recent WebVisions Conference in Portland, Oregon, I stayed at the Jupiter Hotel. It's a former crack-house hotel that is being gutted and remodeled into a boutique hotel. I think they are on the right track. The Burnside area of Portland is rather sketchy because there are several missions located in the area. I didn't mind it since I wasn't traveling with the family, but I will choose another area to stay when we go back for our train/zoo trip.
You can see they diner is still under construction. The white building is the hotel, looking into the courtyard.

It looks like the diner will have a Northwest look with exposed wood.

The room was very small, but comfortable.

I thought the square, deep sink was just to look hip, but soon realized I had room on the counter for my toiletries. Hot water was just about nonexistent in the sink. The shower, however, had plenty of hot water, if you turned it to cold. Those beginner plumbers always have trouble with that. And, it's only a 50-50 chance of getting it wrong.

This is the courtyard from the side my room was located.

A neat touch was the doors covered in chalkboard covering so you can leave notes. They also offer free wireless Internet access, but you have to ask for the password. A quick traceroute showed that they were using transedge.com for their internet acccess. So, if you need to send mail, you can use smtp.transedge.com.
