Spyware-free Real Audio Player
The BBC is making a spyware-free version of Real Audio Player available for download. This is a step in the right direction. I strongly dislike the free version of the Real Player more than I realized. This week I spoke to a friend who said, "I know your feelings about the Real Player, but I have a question about it." :-)

Basically, if a user clicks on a link to download Real Player from a BBC website, the referrer script sends them to a page where they can download an expiry-free, spyware-free and nuicance-free version of the player.

Thanks for the link! Worth pointing out that for Windoze, that devilish realsched.exe still runs... under a pseudonym. I used the Startup control panel to disable the service (which was called "TkBellExe" BTW). The control panel is here:

The BBC version is not spyware free, but it does have less spyware than the normal version.
Real do make a version without spyware, for large companies who won't tolerate that type of thing.
It's called "Real Enterprise Desktop" - and you can download it from the Real web site.
